I have been to many sea beaches, but didn’t felt so delighted! Yes, may be because it was unexpected! Many of my friends actually told me that visiting Saint Martin Island will be a great experience!
We arrived and I started putting a lot of sun expert on my face before we left the boat! Honestly I am not a sunscreen person but you must see the sun that day. Crazy! How come I forgot to tell you that all of my friends who never even thought about to buy a sunscreen, starting putting on their face as well. I couldn’t stop myself screaming on my friends to play with my sunscreen that I bought for the first time in my life. It was expensive!!!
Getting down from the boat was another challenge. I don’t know why, but the people brought so many suitcases for two days! Lord!! Really?
People were struggling with that while getting down. Women were shaking their legs since it was a wooden stand from where you can easily dropped down to the sea. Finally we all found each other and started walking on the streets to find a rickshaw that looks different. It means that was more like a wooden cage with comfortable seat for short distances but expensive. Only four people with their small bags can accommodate in that box that costs 150 taka for any distances inside Saint Martin. You can always bargain but I would suggest you to walk, if you don’t have a big luggage like honeymoon couples.
The resort we checked in for three days & one night was situated in an amazing location. It was located at the end of the island and have their own private beach. I and Islam both were fortunate enough to get one room for us! Rest of the people had to take another room since they all were men. The resorts are comparatively expensive than other places but if you go with fiends, you can always share the room rents.
Usually the accommodation range fluctuates between 1500 to 5000 taka per night! You have always options to choose according to your budget. Since we all preferred to stay away from the crowded center, we selected that resort. There are some three star hotels in the center but expensive.
You won’t actually get the feel of island hopping if you stay there. But yes, everyone can choose their own accommodation because definition of comfort varies from person to person.
Right after we reached, we found another group of people were checking in but couldn’t find them decent! So, time for advice guys, you will find a lot of people whose looks would be inappropriate, judgmental and sometimes you will find them difficult to avoid in certain situations. Please try to be careful since they sometimes follow or create problems while coming back to the hotel at nights. If you are alone, please be careful.
Additionally, In Saint Martin Island you won’t get electricity connection, so better when you sleep or enjoy beach time, plug in your mobile or power bank for future usage. A friend of mine went there before and he told us to charge our power banks before we leave the room.
Sohel, our friend who were dancing in the boat with the Dutch guy suddenly got a phone call from his office! Unfortunately he had to go back to Dhaka on the next morning and it was urgent. God! We all were already started missing his presence since he is the major fun loving person in the whole group. He makes everyone laugh all the time! The time he received that call was around 12:30 and the last boat that leaves the Saint Martin Island was in 3PM! Only few more hours left to enjoy with him.
With a heavy heart we all jumped into the beach and did crazy things. We invented games like showing legs, putting mouth inside the water, jumping on the speedboat, throwing towels to each other! Trust me guys, those were shitty games invented by us instantly. Bob, the Dutch guy took all the challenges seriously and scratched Sohel’s neck to win the competition. We all enjoyed and started feeling the hunger inside our stomach after an hour.
We all agreed to leave the beach and started looking for lunch! After going to the city, we found a lot of restaurants that attracted with the sea fishes! But remember! The hotel policies are different and they don’t have any fixed price. They charge people depending on their knowledge, attire, gesture and outlook. So, you must need to bargain before you go inside the hotel.
First you have to ask the price of the fish and then the package they provide. Usually they will never serve you fish without rice, but if you want, you have to ask and finalize a price. These shops sell whole fish, piece, and half (depending on size and popularity) .The best way to bargain and guess the actual price could be, some research (asking random restaurants and compare). But usually the small / piece fish price starts from 80 taka to 200 that includes rice, vorta and vegetables. On the other hand fish price fluctuates depending on the season and size as well. So just try your luck!
So we had a super fight with the restaurant because they charged a lot and used disgusting oil for frying our fishes! Later we went to a dessert shop and had a lot of Jilapis and Mishti. My friends knows that I don’t eat rice or meat but a lot of sweets! I can live on desserts for years may be! And I can bet you guys, nobody can beat me when it’s about eating sweets.
We started feeling really exhausted after the lunch and decided to go back to room for an hour. By that time, Sohel departed for Dhaka and we started walking towards the resort. All were super sleepy and fall asleep right after we locked our room. We woke up with Mehedi’s power voice! He was screaming! He is the only guy who didn’t sleep since he was discussing his personal problem with one of his professors. I was hearing all of his funny topics that he considered very serious all the time. Islam and I always make fun of his personal problems though they are not personal at all!!
Oh one important thing that I forgot to tell you, most of my friends have kids at their home and sometimes they bore us (Mehedi, Didar & Me) with their kiddo topic!! So the parent’s squad started missing their kids and decided to leave next day while we were drinking tea after waking up. Mehedi was upset and Islam was determined to go back. The situation was getting serious and suddenly Sunny planned after dinner party!!
We walked, had some shitty crabs in the night market and got back to hotel for the party! Guys, remember one things, its better if you don’t eat fried fish, crabs from the night market! The oil that they use are really bad! You might get stomach problem after eating those. Though initially we didn’t realize but when we went back we actually felt like to puke! I personally decided to quit dinner and sleep after party!
We played songs, danced and enjoyed a lot! Later all decided to change their plan and stay back to Saint Martin Island for one more day. Well, the party was an amazing idea though. Mehedi went back to his happy face and we all planned for the next day trip to The Chera Dip!
